Google is to open a new front in the battle of the giants. Available only in the US, the service is set to attract millions of people who look for discount coupons before making an important purchase. These coupons will initially be integrated with Google Maps at no extra charge. Google said it would make a large number of online coupons available immediately from Valpak, a company that has long distributed packages of coupons in paper form in US. (Mid August 2006).

Microsoft's Mr. Bill Gates to step aside for two years. The real reason ? Microsoft is going to work on online versions of its revenue earning software, which is being done to capture a major chunk of online advertising. Mr. Ray Ozzie, the man behind Lotus Notes is going to spearhead the campaign. Google's and Yahoo's revenues which are surging ahead, and investors interest in their stocks has prompted Microsoft to go ahead with this high risk ambitious plan.

Google Inc the most used internet search engine is testing a tool that lets people create web pages and maintain them at a Google site, matching a service offered by Yahoo! Inc. With this service users can create pages without having to download new software. Pages can include images, various styles and sizes of texts and links to other pages. This software is called Google Page Creator and is one more example of the Mountain View California based Company's efforts to attract more users.

Microsoft has launched a Partner Academy in India to train the employees of its partners in the latest high end technologies. The first of its kind in Asia - Pacific region, the partner academy aims to train about thousand professionals in latest Microsoft technologies, said Mr. Sudev Muthya, Director, Enterprise and Partner Group, Microsoft.

Microsoft plans a new version of Windows, Windows Vista Home Premium, due in the second half of this year. Similar to the "Media Centre" version of Windows. This OS includes tools for watching television, recording and many other functions needed for using PC for entertainment purposes.

China Warns of Virus Attack between Feb 27th and Mar 5th. A virus known as Worm_Gift.B is will spread through email or online chat systems. Other viruses derived from Worm_Mytob will also assault computers if users email or attachments disguised with the following data I-Worm.RunDIIw32Activated . This is a I-Worm coded by Bumblebee 29a! Gretingz to all 29a members.

Google Pack announced. A set of free software including Adobe Reader 7, Ad-Aware SE Personal, GalleryPlayer HD images, Google Desktop, Google Earth, Google Pack Screensaver, GoogleTalk, GoogleBar for IE, Mozilla FireFox with Toolbar is also part of the Pack. Additionally, Nortan Antivirus special edition, Picassa, RealPlayer and Trillion are also included.

Microsoft's ERP Dynamics-AX for small and medium businesses has found more than 300 takers. The fast growth is attributed to the ground up engineering of the product as opposed to customization of an ERP solution meant for large enterprises. This product requires smaller servers, less hardware, because it is meant for a smaller environment. It also links into exchange and office. Implemention time is less at three weeks to a month.

Movie Actors now Brand Ambassadors for Compaq a well known Computer Company. It is not certain whether this happens in other Countries, but in India Film Actors are now sponsoring IT products. It is not just Compaq but leading companies with a presence in India are trying this route. If Film Actors can become Rulers and Statesmen (which requires more experience), why not Brand Ambassadors ? This also shows a certain desperation of computer companies to use whatever means to sell their computers. Come to think of it, the brand ambassador used by Compaq is Mr. Shah Rukh Khan an actor who commands the highest price for his time. The margins on computers being low, it is debatable whether this strategy will pay off.

Nissan North America has selected Satyam Computer Services (Hyderabad) as its sole Information Technology Service Provider. While there are no official figures, it is a Five Year deal and sources say the value could be around $100 Million. The $80 billion NISSAN NA is the second major automobile client of SCS. A dedicated facility will be setup in Chennai for servicing Nissan NA, officials say.
